Anti:dote @ Fairmont Singapore

Once a year on this day, I get to choose a place for a special treat from him. To think of it, this might be our 1st high tea after all these years. We ordered both the Anti:dote tea set & the Oriental tea set at $38++ per set. The only difference between the 2 sets is with the appetizer.

We had a pot of TWG tea each from their wide selection & it’s refillable.

black truffle scrambled egg1
black truffle scrambled egg2
Black Truffle Scramble Egg – This comes with the Anti:dote tea set. The scramble egg is infused with truffle taste & is stored in the egg shell with the black truffle on top. Kinda waste to dip it with the bread stick. Preferred to eat the scramble egg on it’s own to savor the truffle taste.

Dim Sum – This comes with the Oriental tea set. Consist of shrimp har gau, chive dumpling & scallop siew mai. However both of us does not take chive & they gladly replaced the chive dumpling to another schrimp har gau for us.

Here’s the interesting chest of drawers. The top tier are the sweets, the 1st drawer are the savory, the 2nd drawer are scones & lemon pound cake, the last drawer not in the picture are the homemade strawberry jam, devonshire clotted cream & lemon curd for the scones & 2 take home cookies.

Well, both of us are really not sweet person. Tried very hard to finish all of it. Consisted of:
Strawberry gateau, raspberry, lychee pearl
Apple delight, almond crumble
Karukera chocolate mirror tart
Earl grey éclair
Anti:dote rum baba
Macaroon (tasted like lemon flavor to me)

rum baba
Close up of the rum baba. An interesting dessert where you can adjust the liquor level according to your liking.

This is our favorite tier. Enjoyed most of them especially the lobster roll. The cucumber & dill salad, cream cheese tasted a bit weird though.
Consisted of:
Smoked salmon, crème fraîche, caviar
Boston lobster roll, herb mayonnaise
Cucumber and dill salad, cream cheese
Prosciutto, onion jam, aged cheddar
Coronation curried chicken

Both the scones & pound cakes are kinda dry. We just tasted a bit of each & left it there.

It’s a very visually appealing & interesting high tea set. Both of us enjoyed the appetizers & most of the savories. We decided that high tea is not really for us who does not really enjoy sweet stuffs. The sweet stuffs are just too overwhelming for us.

Triple Three @ Meritus Mandarin Orchard

Was attracted here mainly by the 1-for-1 DBS card promotion. It was $62++ per person for their weekday lunch. The service charge & GST is based on the price of buffet for 2 pax which is $124 x 10% x 7%. Each person paid about $41.50 nett after the promotion.

On the left are cooked food stations & on the right are food cooked or sliced upon request.

The cold seafood station. We didn’t touch any of this. There’s no oyster served for lunch. We decided that the prawns & crabs, of negligible size, are not worth our effort to make our hands dirty. We rather save our stomach for other food.

– They have my favorite swordfish & the standard salmon & tuna. There’s some sushi too.

– The soba is already in the bowl. Just have to dispense the dipping sauce from the flask then add the ingredients yourself. Taste decent.

Chawanmushi – This has to be requested from the counter. They will add a saltish & slightly sweet broth & ebiko before serving. It’s not bad. We had 2 rounds of this.

Tempura – I think their seafood is all this small in size but then again, its buffet so take all you want. The batter is light, crisp & not too oily. We had many rounds of this.

Scallop Tart – Quite nice but cannot take too much as the tart can be quite filling.
Takopachi – Not bad & the dried fish flake is free flow.
Chicken & Pork Sausage – Decent normal.
Beef Kebab – Grilled just right with a variety of sauce to choose. Tender, chewy, nice.

Prawn Ball – The prawn is chopped & mixed with other ingredients. Can’t really figure out what’s in it.
Teppanyaki Prawn – This is the only food I took from their teppanyaki station. The beef & bean sprout is mixed with a lot of garlic so I didn’t take those. The prawn also has a garlic taste but still acceptable as it’s quite fresh & succulent.
Sauteed Mushrooms – The sauce compliments the mushroom & I like it.

Shepherd Pie – He took this & I ate some, it taste good with the gravy.

Various types of cheese with crackers. He took these too.
Behind are smoked salmon & smoked tuna. This is the first time I ate smoked tuna. I felt it’s more chewy than smoked salmon.

The Tiramisu is mediocre. Chocolate cake is quite rich. I can’t recall if the cup contains passion fruit or mango pudding.

Bread Pudding – I kinda like bread pudding. The one here is not bad but we were too full for dessert so we only took a little.

Overall we felt the variety is enough but not extensive. I personally like it that they offered an array of Japanese food & the variations of prawns prepared differently. However I think we have higher expectations for hotel buffet. If not for the 1-for-1 promotion, paying the full price will probably cause disappointment.
