Anti:dote @ Fairmont Singapore

Once a year on this day, I get to choose a place for a special treat from him. To think of it, this might be our 1st high tea after all these years. We ordered both the Anti:dote tea set & the Oriental tea set at $38++ per set. The only difference between the 2 sets is with the appetizer.

We had a pot of TWG tea each from their wide selection & it’s refillable.

black truffle scrambled egg1
black truffle scrambled egg2
Black Truffle Scramble Egg – This comes with the Anti:dote tea set. The scramble egg is infused with truffle taste & is stored in the egg shell with the black truffle on top. Kinda waste to dip it with the bread stick. Preferred to eat the scramble egg on it’s own to savor the truffle taste.

Dim Sum – This comes with the Oriental tea set. Consist of shrimp har gau, chive dumpling & scallop siew mai. However both of us does not take chive & they gladly replaced the chive dumpling to another schrimp har gau for us.

Here’s the interesting chest of drawers. The top tier are the sweets, the 1st drawer are the savory, the 2nd drawer are scones & lemon pound cake, the last drawer not in the picture are the homemade strawberry jam, devonshire clotted cream & lemon curd for the scones & 2 take home cookies.

Well, both of us are really not sweet person. Tried very hard to finish all of it. Consisted of:
Strawberry gateau, raspberry, lychee pearl
Apple delight, almond crumble
Karukera chocolate mirror tart
Earl grey éclair
Anti:dote rum baba
Macaroon (tasted like lemon flavor to me)

rum baba
Close up of the rum baba. An interesting dessert where you can adjust the liquor level according to your liking.

This is our favorite tier. Enjoyed most of them especially the lobster roll. The cucumber & dill salad, cream cheese tasted a bit weird though.
Consisted of:
Smoked salmon, crème fraîche, caviar
Boston lobster roll, herb mayonnaise
Cucumber and dill salad, cream cheese
Prosciutto, onion jam, aged cheddar
Coronation curried chicken

Both the scones & pound cakes are kinda dry. We just tasted a bit of each & left it there.

It’s a very visually appealing & interesting high tea set. Both of us enjoyed the appetizers & most of the savories. We decided that high tea is not really for us who does not really enjoy sweet stuffs. The sweet stuffs are just too overwhelming for us.

Black Pig Shabu Ramen ($14.30) – One of my favorite place for ramen. I always order the same ramen & particularly like the savory spicy soup.

Deluxe Hakodate Ramen ($16.30)

This egg comes together with the ramen. The runny egg nicely done.

Scoop Cake ($6) – The soft & fluffy cake with fresh cream. I usually dislike cream on cakes but after trying this, I know that cream can be this good too.

We have visited here many times & the standard is still good. Though it may sound boring to be eating the same thing each time we visit but it’s always a delightful experience.

We made reservation through their website for lunch on a Monday. There are various promotions when making reservation through their website. We managed to book the $36++ lunch buffet deal as compared to the usual $49++. Savings of about 25%. Definitely worth it!

Below are pictures of what we had but of course the place offers more than these.
smoked salmon
salmon salad
cold soba
prawns & crab

melon soup

Overall we enjoyed the wide variety buffet very much, especially the dessert. 1 of the best international hotel buffet we have tried so far.

Octa Hotel @ Parco Marina Bay

We passed by this place whenever we come to Parco Marina Bay. Browsed through the interesting accessories & homewares in their boutique area a few times & always telling myself that I’ll be back for tea soon.

My wish finally came true on my birthday…

Chocolate Parfait ($12.50) – If I didn’t remember wrongly, in the cup is vanilla ice cream with choc fudge, coco pops, cornflakes, sponge cake, whipped cream & melty kiss chocolate. Heavenly! They have it in Rum & Raisin and Mixed Berries flavor too.

Noel High Tea Set ($11.50) – Accompanying the chocolate dip are 2 rose macaroons, marshmallows, sponge cake, strawberries & kiwi. We topped up $2.50 for a cup of tea, non refillable. The rose macaroon has a mild flower aftertaste, unique to me. Other than that, the rest tasted mediocre. They change their tea set menu seasonally.

It’s nice & relaxing to spend our afternoon like this once in a while.

Verve @ Gillman Village

He saw pictures of this place from his friend’s facebook some time ago & decided to come here for tea on a weekday afternoon.

I’m not too sure if this place is fully al fresco. Only the fan was switched on when we arrived. The air con on the ceiling was off.

Chamomile Flowers Tea ($7) – We actually ordered Chrysanthemum Flower Tea but think they took our order wrongly.

Calamari with Verve Garlic Cream ($16) – Actually the cream does not have much garlic taste, which is good for me. The batter is crispy on the outside & the calamari is just right chewy.

Fudgey Chewy Chocolate Brownie with Gelato ($14) – We chose Chocolate Bailey flavor gelato. The brownie is chewy with walnut bits & the chocolate bailey gelato is bittersweet nice.

This place’s causual bistro style gives people a relax feel. We will opt to sit outdoor & try their dinner the next time.
